Being stuck at home is the perfect time to learn new photography skills. I wanted to share the best online photography courses for those on a budget. Taking better photos will not only up your blog game, but it will also help cure the “stay home” blues. I’ve signed up for some of these myself and have seen a big change in my photos.

Click it Up a Notch Photography Courses
Courtney at Click it Up a Notch has a lot of FREE and paid online photography courses. I have personally taken her online manual mode course and it is highly recommend.
I purchased a Nikon D3400 over a year ago and was too scared to switch from auto to manual mode. Her course helped me learn things like:
- The exposure triangle
- Apeture
- Shutter speed
- White balance
- Focal point
- Metering Modes
- Reading a histogram
- And much more!
Their offerings are definitely budget friendly. They also have plenty of free online tips such as a manual mode cheat sheet, freeze motion tips, natural light guidance, where to buy affordable camera equipment, presets, and many more resources.
Foodtography School Online Masterclass
Another affordable option is Foodtography School. (Scroll down to the “Gotta Love a Freebie” section to see the free offers.
I found them through Instagram and their feed is drool worthy to say the least. Free is always great for your budget right? Well, they are one of the wonderful companies offering their online photography course masterclasses for FREE right now.
They have tips on using your smartphone too. I definitely like to use my iPhone when I’m out at a restaurant and I want to show my blog readers how “yummy” the food is.
Here’s a recent shot that I took at a cafe using my smartphone.

They offer great photography information on:
- Using your smartphone to create professional food photos
- Composition and other food photo taking tips
- Smartphone editing
- Food photography business tips
- How to get paid to take photos in restaurants
- Brand and restaurant pitch guides
I am one of those people that loves taking pictures of my food. If you are like me, then you should definitely take advantage of this free resource. There will be a full review of their paid classes soon on the blog.

Their website offers the most comprehensive guide to photography. And, they also have a great magazine too called – Click Magazine.

I subscribe to the print version. I love to flip through and see the vibrant photos and tips that you can use for both your DLSR camera and smartphone. They often have photo contests where you can get your shots featured in the magazine. Some of my favorite Instagrammers have even had their shots in the magazine.
