Instagram is not just a place for you to show off your fashionable outfits or the yummy food. It’s also full of communities where you can learn and practice your photography skills. There are so different hubs that post daily, weekly, and monthly challenges. This post is dedicated to my five favorite Instagram hubs that you should know about.
First, what is an Instagram hub? Hubs are accounts on Instagram that share other people’s content. They are basically a community of people that get together to share, inspire and promote photographers of all skill levels.
Within the hub is an administrator who organizes everything. The administrator then invites other Instagrammers to become “mods” or “moderators”. This group selects the photos that they want to feature.
These groups have weekly, monthly, or daily challenges. Some challenges will have a theme. For example, some challenges center around color, children, food, flowers, or any variety of themes. They will prompt participants to use a certain hashtag for the challenge (such as #onthetable).
Here are the Instagram hubs that I participate in:
@nothingisordinary_

@rotblaugelb, @assheseesit, @__bellanote
Main hashtag – #nothingisordinary or #nothingisordinary_
@nothingisordinary_ has weekly challenges that vary in topic. For example, some of their recent challenges were:
- black and white in color
- typography week
- doors
- pop of red
Winners are featured and tagged in grids. It is also customary for you to follow the Instagram hub and leave a nice comment or two.
@shared_joy

@raisingwildones
@shared_joy has a great motto – “Where we share our JOY”!
Main hashtag – #shared_joy
This Instagram hub mostly features photos from momtogs as well as professional photographers. Their gallery is lovely and provides me with inspiration that will help me up my photography game.
They feature photos from their main hashtag and weekly theme challenges. They have a great group of moderators that selects the daily features. I used to be a moderator for them and thoroughly enjoyed their welcoming community. Be sure to follow them, especially if you have beautiful shot of your children that you want to share.
@JJ_lookingdown
Main hashtag – #jj_lookingdown
This Instagram hub is part of the @JJ_community. They feature “looking down” shots. There is no monthly prompt calendar to follow. Instead, use the daily hashtag to get featured. (They do have themes every once in a while). It’s one of my favorites because I love to tag my Converse sneakers photos to their hashtag.

Stay tuned for more Instagram photography hub spotlights. I love to participate in way more that is mentioned on this post. For more inspiration be sure to follow along by clicking on the photography tab in the menu.
